June 21st was an exciting day for our residents, as Michigan Basketball Coach John Beilein and four of his current and former basketball players visited to put on a basketball “clinic.” The players in attendance included Tim Hardaway, Jr., Jordan Morgan, Eso Akunne, and former team captain Zack Novak.
Coach Beilein and his players entered the gym to cheers from the residents, and they proceeded to demonstrate several practice drills for them. These included two-handed dribbling, circular ball rotations, shoot-arounds, reverse lay-ups, and a few light dunks. When complete, Coach Beilein and his players took the time to autograph posters and personal items, pose for photographs, and sing, “The Victors.”
Coach Beilein began his relationship with St. Louis Center in January of this year, when he visited for a tour with his wife, Kathleen. In February, he invited four of our residents to the Crisler Center to witness a U-M victory against Illinois, and in March he chose us as his favorite charity for the Infiniti Coachs’ Charity Challenge. On Tuesday June 26th, Coach Beilein was given the John Panelli Celebrity Award at the St. Louis Center Golf & Glory Outing at U-M Golf Course.
