Michigan Basketball Coach Honored by SLC at Golf & Glory Outing

St. Louis Center held back-to-back events to benefit the residents of St. Louis Center in Chelsea, MI on June 25-26, 2012. These events have become community treasures, as they involve both food and sports; and most people love both.

Fr. Joseph Rinaldo, SdC., former Administrator of St. Louis Center, was honored at a special dinner on Monday June 25, 2012 attended by fifty people at Paesano’s Restaurant in Ann Arbor, MI. This was the second year for this fundraising dinner, offered to support the operations of St. Louis Center in Chelsea, MI.

This year’s dinner featured the foods of Sicily, Fr. Joseph’s home area, and included a five course meal with Spada Putanesca and seared duck breast as the main attractions. Each item was then paired with a special selection of white or red wine. During the meal, Fr. Joseph was honored by his friends from the local community, who stood-up to praise his life’s devotion to persons with developmental disabilities, and in the end, he received several special gifts.

The next day, the Golf and Glory Outing took place on Tuesday June 26, 2012 at the U-M Golf Course in Ann Arbor, MI, and was one of the best outings in eighteen years. A full course of 144 golfers began their beautiful sun-drenched 75 degree day with a 10:00 a.m. shotgun start, and enjoyed golfing at one of the finest golf courses in Michigan. Fifteen celebrity golfers were in attendance, and the winning team came in at 13 under par.

The dinner was tastefully catered by Moveable Feast caterers, and a live auction and awards ceremony followed dinner. Following a welcoming address from Pistons play-by-play announcer George Blaha, St. Louis Centers’ friends and staff honored John Beilein with the John Panelli Celebrity Award to recognize him for his work. Beilein is the head men’s basketball coach of the University of Michigan, and has chosen St. Louis Center to be his favorite charity as long as he remains coach of the Michigan basketball program. Co-chair Norm Neuman was also honored with the Bill Wagner Pioneer Award for his many years of hard work.
