Pancakes & Pumpkins

Chelsea – As the seasons change in Michigan, one of the best times of the year for the residents of St. Louis Center is Halloween. And what would Halloween be without Michigan grown pumpkins to decorate their rooms? That thought brought about the SLC “Pancakes and Pumpkins” project on the Saturday before Halloween, which began three years ago. Bill Roller, a member of Knights of Columbus Council #6687 at Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Michigan Center, loves SLC, and works with his wife Pam and fellow council members to spend their time supporting the residents with fun events. This year, fifteen members of the council visited SLC in the early morning hours of October 24th to prepare breakfast and distribute pumpkins for the residents before they headed out to their bowling league in Ann Arbor. “We enjoy spending time with them and getting to know them as people. If we can put a smile on their faces, we’ve done our jobs as Knights,” said Roller. Whenever SLC residents can color pumpkins and eat pancakes and sausage, there are plenty of smiles to go around!
