Chelsea -A mood of celebration overtook the gym at St. Louis Center on August 18th as Music Therapist Jamie Merritt arrived to perform a set of dance and folk music to get everyone on their feet and onto the dance floor for two hours of exercise, fun and entertainment. Ms. Merritt has been working with the residents in smaller groups for the past year, but on this day, all of the residents were involved by the end of the day. With the help of Fitness Specialist, Caitlin Blomquist, everyone received a plastic egg shaker to help establish their rhythm, and then the real fun began. As each group entered the gym, more and more energy was added to the group until everyone in the gym was up dancing, singing and playing the tambourines. By the end of the session, everyone agreed that Music Therapy was great fun and a great workout for the residents.
